About

In 1993 I opened ‘The Heidi Rhodes School of Dancing’ in my converted garage.  It was not long before I had to move to larger premises and St Stephens’s church hall in Windsor was our first venue.  Over the years the school has expanded in areas and used many venues.  I was delighted that after eight years of trying to get planning permission on various venues that we finally opened our own studios in Windsor in 2010.  In addition to our studio we still hold junior classes at other locations in Berkshire and Surrey.

The aims of our school are to provide a consistent high standard of teaching in a relaxed and happy environment, with the flexibility to respond to individual child needs, encouraging them to take pride in their dancing to achieve their best.  As a school we teach RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern and Tap and LCM Acting and all examinations taken in the school are included on the national qualifications framework.

We get involved in lots of activities outside of the normal syllabus and we have performed at The London Palladium, Sadler’s Wells, Her Majesty’s, The Royal Albert Hall, Theatre Royal Windsor, Legoland Windsor, Indigo at the O2 and Disneyland Paris!

We were lucky to be asked to do a ‘Flashmob’ in Windsor for the opening of ‘Creams café’ and we were also part of the live Advent calendar event in Windsor for the Bel and Dragon!

We were featured on the BBC Culture show and dancers from the school have appeared in Sound of Music UK Tour, Matilda, Billy Elliot, Blue Peter, London Children’s Ballet and Teletubbies Television.  We currently have dancers in full time vocational schools and attending associate classes at The Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst School for Dance, Laine Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Tring Park, Central School of Ballet, Legat School of Dance, Ballet Boost, London Junior & Senior Ballet, The Urdang Academy, Young Dancers Academy and Englsih National Ballet School.

Classes

Test

All classes in the school are taken by qualified teachers that hold Enhanced DBS (Formerly CRB) Disclosures.

The syllabus includes Classical Ballet, which incorporates Character and Free movement as well as Modern Jazz & Tap, Contemporary and Acting.  We have also recently introduced Acrobatic Arts to our syllabus! The examination boards are the Royal Academy of Dance for Classical Ballet, The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for Modern and Tap, London College of Music for Acting and we also follow a professional Acrobatic Arts syllabus that leads to exmainations.  All children attending the school will be encouraged to enter examinations (As a school we do not enter for ‘Dance class Awards’ or ‘standards’ as these exams are not accredited on the qualifications and credit framework, (excluding Pre-Primary) to achieve formal qualification and will be able to do so from the age of five. Grades start from pre-primary through to RAD and ISTD Major examinations.

RAD, ISTD & LCM

Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance/Acting at QCF Level 3 are allocated points on the UCAS Tariff.

This means that candidates who have achieved a pass or higher in Grades 6, 7, 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation, can use their exam result towards their points tariff when applying to university or higher education in the UK.
